What if there was a secret underlying meaning of burnout?

What if, (let's just spitball here), burnout was actually your soul screaming at you that you've been pushing for too hard, for too long?

What if your rampant thoughts, teamed up with your roller-coaster-like mood and emotions, lack of sleep, high stress and regular pangs of anxiety were like, all trying to tell you something?

OMG could you imagine?!

Biiiiiiitch, we need to talk!

Your body, mind and soul has already been dropping hints for so long, encouraging you to change your ways, but you think you know best. You wear that badge of honour of getting shit done. You're the go getter. The high achiever. The success story. I bet if there was a noble prize for being busy, you'd take that thing out year after year!

So let's start where it's important. Congratulations. It takes real effort and willpower to stay that truly focused. And what you've achieved? IN-FUCKING-CREDIBLE! Go you. Seriously. You are incredible, and you really do get to give yourself credit!

But here's the thing. This thing you're doing? The way that you're doing it? It's not sustainable long-term. And it's certainly not allowing you to feel happy. And these warning signs? I know you think you're covering them up with three lattes, a bottle of wine, a prescription and a night out on the weekend to blow off steam... But these warning signs are starting to scream louder. Truth be told, you're edging on burnout, and if you don't pay attention soon, something's gonna give way. (Or it already has!)

It's either going to be your health, your relationship (if you've even managed to fit someone into your busy schedule) or your job. Or maybe just your mind. I knowwwww society has encouraged you to be a hard-worker and never give up and to keep hustling and doing whatever it takes. Yes, your life looks good from the outside. You're checking those boxes, making moves, your career is blooming. You are winning at life on paper. But how are you feeling? Do you feel alive in spirit? Do you feel natural excitement when you get out of bed each day, or does the coffee need to kick in for that to happen? Can you relax? Or do you need a couple of wines, some takeaway and a Netflix series to help you unwind?

Welcome to your life. Is this the way you hoped it would feel?

I am not suggesting that you need to pack up shop, resign from your job and go on a deep soul journey to find yourself in the Amazon or be a student of a monk in Tibet, alluring as that might be! I'm just here to shine the spotlight on how you are currently living, and give you a loving reminder that all of this that you thought would make you happy... Isn't.

Your mental health see-saw is a sign.
Your drinking habits are a sign.
The edging closer to burnout? A big flashing neon sign.

And if any of this is resonating with you? That's a sign you're heading that way.

So what if there was another way?

What if there was another way where you could be successful, but it didn't cost your your own joy or your health or your relationship? What if you could actually wake up happy and not need that double shot (who am I kidding, it's probably a triple by now!) to get you started? You can have the coffee, sure, but you wouldn't be aching for it like it's your literal life support.

Let's take this further.

What if, for arguments sake, that you could do what you wanted to do in the way that you wanted to do it?

What if that thing that you wanted to do had real meaning, like it had a deeper purpose, something that truly mattered to you?

What if you could actually do life in the way you wanted to do it? In a way that involves you actually prioritizing your health and well-being?

What if you could jump out of bed each day with excitement for what the day had in store, not because you had to force yourself to get up?

What if you didn't need to drink each day, or head back to the doctor's office for another prescription month after month just so your mental health can find stability?

What if you didn't need to cope with the life you've got?

What if you didn't need to put on a brave face each day, pretending like it's all OK, forcing yourself to push through even though your body, mind and soul is screaming at you for change?

This is not a call to arms to get you throw up your hands and say "Fuck this- I'm out!". Whilst this definitely is an option, there are other ways forward too. And those other ways forward involve you actually listening to your mind, body and soul. A simple holiday won't fix this either, that's nothing more than a band-aid solution, a temporary release from your life. It helps, sure. But what's really under the microscope here is the way you're operating when you get back from your holiday. Because if you don't start paying attention to that soon, you will either get sick, have a mental breakdown, or end up retiring and looking back on your life and wished you had the courage to put yourself first...

Isn't it time you started to prioritize you?

Like, this really is your life and you get to choose how you operate.

But are you feeling the way you want to feel? Or could that do with a little more TLC?

Getting yourself back on track is simple. You can either do this on your own, or you could ask for help.
